POISON Frontman Announces Solo Tour
July 22, 2003VH1 Classic recently announced they will present the Bret Michaels"Songs of Life" tour this fall. Michaels will embark on this, his first-ever solo tour, on September 26 in Cincinnati, Ohio — just two weeks after the POISON tour ends. The tour is in support of Michaels' "Songs Of Life" CD released on May 20, 2003. The set list of the solo tour will consist of songs from both his solo and POISON career, as well as a few covers. As he told the Beaumont/Port Arthur Texas Local Music Guide recently, "it will be a combination of stuff that I did write, what I am writing now, and what I wish I wrote!" The tour is currently scheduled through much of October, with additional dates coming.
This announcement comes on the heels of VH1 Classic's most successful contest — "Party Like A Rock Star With Bret Michaels". "Without a doubt, Bret Michaels' 'Party Like a Rock Star' contest set a new record for the largest amount of entries we have received for any contest on VH1 Classic and we are excited to be presenting his upcoming 'Songs of Life' solo tour," said Eric Sherman, VH1 Classic General Manager.
Michaels appeared in the third installment of VH1's "Rock Bodies" series, which gives viewers some insight into how celebrities stay fit. "Rock Bodies III" featured Michaels, Beyonce Knowles and Tori Amos. Michaels took viewers through his strenuous daily workout routine that he uses to keep his diabetic body in tour shape. The workout included weightlifting, kickboxing, motocross and even a few tense moments in which the singer injects himself with insulin while on camera.
While out on tour with POISON this summer, Michaels not only proudly supports our troops, but has also supported another cause close to his heart — The Station Family Fund. The Fund was set up to raise money for the victims and families of the February 20th West Warwick, Rhode Island nightclub fire. Michaels himself lost several good friends in the tragedy. At a number of POISON's shows, he allowed the Station Family Fund to collect donations from fans. When POISON visited the Tweeter Center in Boston, Michaels took time to meet the victims and families backstage. "It is amazing how brave and determined the survivors are, being able to move forward with their lives, dealing with both the physical and emotional scars," states Michaels. "Needless to say it was a very emotional night for me, but their strength truly gave me something to believe in."
